Barbara Ann Corcoran

Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10 1949) is an American businesswoman investor and speaker. She is also a consultant, speaker and syndicated columnist. She is also an TV personality, author and author. In 2001, she launched The Corcoran Group in New York City. She later sold the company to NRT for $66 million. In the following months she left the company. One of the show's first "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in all 12 seasons of ABC's Shark Tank until now. Corcoran has signed 53 deals in February 2020. Her largest deal was her investment of $350,000 into Coverplay with a 40% stake. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second child of ten in an Irish-Catholic working class family. [8] Her mother, Florence, was a household worker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He moved from one job to another throughout Corcoran's early years. At times, the family depended on free food delivery from a nearby grocery store. Corcoran remembers her father, a man who sometimes drank too much, and behaved towards her mother disrespectfully and condescendingly, especially after he'd consumed some drinks. Corcoran struggled through her schooling and was eventually diagnosed with dyslexia. Corcoran went to a local Catholic elementary school, and then began high school at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Corcoran dropped several classes during her first year before transferring to Leonia High School where she was a D student.
