Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964 was a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and is the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected the city's district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. From 2017 until 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She gained a national profile due to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
